REFLECTIONS IN EXILE

We sat alone that night

sweat comingling under the moon

lit more or less

by other headlights

No one wanted us

anymore

We were headed home

but not together

We shared the pilgrimage

but parted aware

we’d never come back

as an “us”

Looking South now

back to where we came from

I’ve no clearer vision

than you

of what we were there for

I only know

the Exile drained us

took what sense of beauty

Faith idealistically promised

Leaving us solo

with wondering

whatever became of

reflections
