HELEN SUCCULENT

I caught the moon peeking
through a heavy veil of clouds
As in Darkness judiciously
I took gathered flotsam
dried out, to set afire
A funeral pyre
intended to light the night
Upon the altar sacrifice to Heaven
Hope that had perished
in arrogant daylight

Crackle pop
went bits and bobs
Fizzle lost
Sighs sailing up
beyond my grief
Borne of Exhausted Want

Harbor here?
Empty brusque sanitary
Wondering why mariners and astronauts
Left so stealthily
despite drunk on
Precious Helens succulence
