WHAT I HELD of ONCE

All this time
I maintained the mirage
You were the stain
I truly wasn’t
Gawky untrustworthy
Uncouth unaware
Your friends cloistered around me
shaming me should I dare
“He CHOSE YOU, you’ve got to understand”
They implored

A six foot monstrosity
smothering me
I prayed
as you Forced

Cape Cod doesn’t know
I’m told you thought
Me – It wondrous
if indeed you remember at all
No scripture you quote
No claims to my Insanity
will ever condone
or make what you did
Honorable

I told yesterday
35 years hunkered Awful

I didn’t die
as I thought Necessary
Instead
God closed the matter
Took it with Him
this weighty yoke
away from my place of landing
Rewarded my unclenching
my fist and heart
with a Sundown
