Autumnal Equinox

Somehow I made it
through the night
Unimpressed
The sky looks like
the oceans
Too many hues
Won’t give up the moon
Won’t show up the sun

I eye my cave quite warily
The dogs broke into
the peanut butter
I spy suspiciously
The canned soup laden
with MSG
When its all that left
You’ll eat anything
Snuggle cuddle
Preserved I’ll be
Til the next social battering
So what’s the point
In all my frowns
Won’t stop dancing with the moon
Don’t run with the sun
(It’s too bright, anyhow)

I admit it
I’ve always
Sashayed shy alone
and a bit
in the shadows
The last girl
chosen for teams at school
The last one to find Lust
(If ever at all)
Wonder why those
Thriving
Won’t sit a spell with me
Like the ladies watching
Civil War battles
On the sidelines
with creativity and tea

Somehow I made it
through the night
Shocked I’m still here
The sky looks like
a soul, sad and blue
Pretty but too void of clues
Won’t give up the moon
Won’t show up the sun
Perhaps for just a bit
I’ll take a risk
Dip a toe into it all
Here, on this
Autumnal Equinox
