Masada

Size six shoes
don’t fit me anymore
What happened to you?
While I’ve run
I still grew
Found a few more hues
I always stayed
Curious
about the world around us

You didn’t like me
So I ran
Saw new places
Found out I can
adapt and change
for the better
Met everywhere
My Creator
I was ashamed
You stayed the same
Only changed your name
your car
Sometimes your sweater
Antiquatedly
took a town council seat
Looked down
on any stranger

You can’t see
the precipice
on which you live
Offer us Outcasts
some property
out by the cemetery
Beyond the gates
of what’s always been sacred

Life’s out beyond
Not an enemy
but Fate
You don’t have to die
Escape
God knows better
The cries
of Masada
Echo forever
