Les Douaires

The night
I heard
first thunder there
whiskers scraped
my shoulder blades
muscle-thick wet-pink
conquered my neck
tender hands gently
uncovered riches
Lightning dared not
Illuminate

I shiver now
as clouds collide here
Begging God and tide
to bring you where
Virginity
needs redefining
Lovemaking was lost
when my little town
decided to fight
Surviving

I wrap crystal
in new sheets
Awaiting the rain
Reminiscing
I became yours
the night
You let me see
how
Thunder could transform
A child
into a wife

Such are
our dowries
Poet to poet
Country to country
Breath to body
and back again
Crescendoing
Delightfully
Insatiably
Aching…wanting
